This morning, Jedidiah brought me his plate and held it up to me. "More, pwee." I scooped some scrambled eggs off my plate, told him to eat his sausage ("yucky") and sent him back to his seat with a cautioning "careful" and a prayer to not spill. It reminded me of the scene in Oliver Twist where the little boy asks for "a little more" porridge and is sharply reprimanded and sent off. My heart dropped for a minute as I recalled that scene and I watched Jedidiah's stout little legs carry him back to his little table, always knowing that Mommy would give him more if he asked and never worrying about not receiving what he needed or being yelled at for simply asking.
Today, as I was expertly searing a pot roast that was seasoned to perfection, the burner caught on fire. We do not have a fire extinguisher and I knew better than to throw water on it since there was oil in my pan. I admit, I had an extremely clear head throughout.
I turned off the burner and was able to get the pan to the sink. The burner was still aflame and I hesitated throwing a towel on it, knowing the towel would burn and perhaps make the problem larger since I didn't think I could beat out the fire with it. So, after glancing at my kids in their room and mentally planning our escape route should the fire increase, I did what every girl would do.I dumped my purse, grabbed my phone, and called my husband.
Fire went out smoothly and I kept my head, which is reassuring for future chaotic situations.
And yes, had the fire gotten worse or had been bigger, I would have immediately called 911 and taken the boys outside.

lol. i LOVE it. Apart of me wishes I had been there to witness the flame, but if i had been there i bet you would have done the infamous bethany scream and say "What do I do?" and I would yell "I dont know!" and you would say "Call justin!!!" lol. I know this is EXACTLY what would have taken place. love you.
Remember when the generic breakfast pastries caught on fire in my toaster and the firemen came?
Love your little Jedidiah/Oliver Twist story.
